GEM Construction has been a principal contributor to a major refurbishment at Kilbeggan, the only racecourse in Ireland to run events exclusively under National Hunt rules.

A Historic Site

Race meetings have been held at Kilbeggan since 1840, and it is home to the annual €50,000 Midlands Grand National, which is staged in mid-July. Its position at the heart of Ireland, easily accessible from Dublin, makes it a popular venue for day trips from the capital. Because of its popularity, it had outgrown its facilities for spectators, and a refurbishment was badly needed.

Old Stand Replaced by a Two-Storey Pavilion

As part of a €2.5 million upgrade to the course, the existing stand was demolished and in its place was built a pavilion extending to 800 square metres across two storeys. The new building has extensive hospitality facilities which can accommodate up to 200 guests. The high-quality glass-fronted Balcony Suite, located opposite the course’s winning post, has a private balcony with a fine view over the whole track.

GEM Construction was responsible for demolishing the old stand and toilet block, and the building of the new pavilion with a new bar and canteen, as well as siteworks, paving, fencing and drainage. GEM undertook furniture and fit-out for this prestigious sporting venue and leisure facility.

Corporate Hospitality

The luxurious new pavilion has become a favoured choice for corporate hospitality events, and event organisers have spoken warmly of the first-class atmosphere to be found in the Balcony Suite.
